Tamer GARIP was born in Nicosia ,Cyprus on May 10, 1962. The Head of Communications and Founder of Filmmaking Department of Near East University . He teaches “Filmmaking Courses ” they are “Directing I (FLM 101), Directing II (FLM 206)” at the Near East University. Tamer Garip has directed his 2nd feauture film Dr.Dilara , which was premiered at Cannes Film Festival in May 2016.His first feauture film was Codename Venus (Kod Adi Venus) premiered at Cannes in 2012 and shown in Cinemas in Turkey and Cyprus in 2013. Tamer graduated from Brighton University , Business Studies degree and he studied at “Panico Film School (London Film Academy)” in London. He began a Masters course in “Film Studies” in Westminster University, London but did not complete . In 1991, Tamer was declared as the Pioneer of Interactive Advertising while working on TV ads for Saatchi & Saatchi, BMP, TBWA on accounts such as Levis 501 , Nissan, and many other blue chip companies in London. In 1996,He won the best CD-ROM producer award and produced Future Vision Exhibition at Manchester for Barclays Bank Plc. He also produced the first e-commerce internet banking for (Transpay) Barclays Bank Plc . In 1999, he won the Most Innovative Technology Award and The 2nd Best Design Agency Award by Yell Awards of UK, presented by Jonathan Ross. In 2001,he was elected as one of the most influential people in the internet industry and selected as one of the top 12 internet designers of UK by The Internet Magazine. With the assistance of BBC* and Sky TV*, he set up the School of Creative Technologies in London and taught film making techniques to over 100 students in London during 2002-2004. He was appointed as the CEO of “Levent Group” * of Companies (one of the largest companies in TRNC) and also he was the Trustee of Cyprus International University from 2006 until 2011. Feature Film: Code Name: Venus 2012 The Untold Story of The Tragedy In Cyprus Venus came to find the truth about her parents disappearance on her childhood home of Cyprus years ago. What begins as a personal journey starts a secret odyssey that will lead her closer and closer to unearthing Cyprus's tragic and hidden history. But in a land so deeply occupied divided, how far will Venus go for a country that is not her own?
Feature Film: Dr. Dilara 2016 Dr. Dilara Bessano is a Turkish Cypriot, who was born and grew up in Cyprus. She went to Italy to study and there she got married with a writer and researcher, Antonio Bessano. Dr. Dilara is at the end of her 20’s and has a 4-year-old daughter, Asia. Dilara’s life changed drastically when her husband committed suicide on his birthday. Dilara and her daughter Asia moved back to Cyprus after this tragic incident.She started to work as an instructor at the Faculty of Communication at Near East University. While she is working on the documentary that she was working together with her husband entitled “Mass Graves in Cyprus,” she finds herself and her daughter in some issues that make her life more difficult.
NEFF will first take place on the university campus on May 26, 2017. We have determined the main theme of the NEU Film Festival which we will perform this year as ‘happiness’. All secondary and high school students will be able to attend the festival. The Near East Film Festival will take place on May 26, 2017. NEFF will be organized by the Near East University Film Production Department, YDU Promotion and Public Relations Center and Dean of Students. The main aim of the festival is to encourage young people studying in North Cyprus to experience cinematographic art as a means of communication. The festival will be classified in two groups as Short Fiction (Fiction and Experimental) and Documentary Films. Movies will be uploaded via Vimeo and URL addresses will be sent.The deadline for submitting films is May 15, 2017. It was founded in 2013 by Tamer Garip, the Founding President of the Film Production Department.The main objective of the filmmaking division, which has students from 10 different countries, is contributing to the cinematographic arts and establishing the Cinema industry in Northern Cyprus.
