Dr. Kiraz was born in Sinop. She has completed her high school education in Sinop Anatolian Teacher Training High School. That year she entered Hacettepe University Faculty of Education, Chemistry Teaching Department (in German) and she graduated from this department and she got the title of “Teacher of Chemistry”. She did her master’s degree in Ankara University, Institute of Science, Chemistry Department. She started working in Çanakkale 18 March University as Instructor. She had domestic and foreign educations on Teaching Science in Pre-Schools and Primary Schools. She completed her PhD at the Science Institute, Department of Chemistry of the same University. In September 2008, she has started working as faculty member at Near East University, Ataturk Faculty of Education, Educational Sciences Department. Currently, she has been giving lectures on undergraduate, post graduate and PhD level with the title Associate Professor. There are under and post graduate thesis which she supervises, articles which have been published in national and international journals, proceedings which have been presented in scientific meetings and projects which she has been working on.

Bringing up individuals who think independently, who have reached critical point of view, who have the ability to decide independently, who are productive and creative is related with the content of education directly. Today, the studies made in the neurology and psychology area have proved that brain development and mental activities in pre-school education have been developing in a great pace. The mental and physical development pace in pre-school period, is a process for developing thought capacity and creativeness. In this education process, the physical, mental, emotional and social development as a whole should be supported. The impact of science activities providing them achieve problem solving ability in a scientific way and facilitating information transfer by developing their researching, exploring and observing ability derived from their curiosity is essential. In the pre-school period, science activities provide a significant environment for the kids’ developing their cognitive skills. In this study, the science and nature themes included in new Pre-school Education Program which is updated in 2012 and put into use in Turkey in 2013 as a pilot scheme are analysed and their appropriateness to cognitive development for the addressed age group are evaluated. The study has been carried out in accordance with the qualitative research methods and it has been patterned with content analysis. According to the data gained, it is recommended that the present 2002 and 2006 program which has been applied in TRNC should be changed; the updated program which has been prepared according to developing skill, attitude, value and understanding should be revised properly to the cognitive development and should be enriched through science content and should also be used in Northern Cyprus.

The awareness, attitudes and behaviors of teacher candidates, who will be employed in primary and secondary education, about renewable energy within the scope of environmental education have a great importance. In this context, the purpose of this study is to investigate any significant differences in teachers' attitudes about renewable energy in relation to some variables. The research was conducted in the academic year 2011-2012 with 134 (87 female and 47 male) samples. The samples are the students from the Departments of Pre-School Teaching, Classroom Teaching, and Teaching Geography in Near East University in Northern Cyprus. The data analysis was based on "Renewable Energy Attitude Scale" developed by Morgil et al. in 2005, whichconsists 39 questions and based on 5-likert scale. The validity and reliability of the "Renewable Energy Attitude Scale" was computed by the researchers, and the number of the questions was decreased to 33 after they were adapted to the Cypriot culture. SPSS 16 program was used for data analysis. The arithmetic mean, the frequency - the percentage distribution, t-test and one-way analysis of variance were used in analyzing the data. It was found that the department, gender, class and environmental education received at the university make a significant difference in the environmental attitudes of teacher candidates, whereas their parents' education and environmental education received at high school do not make any significant difference in the environmental attitudes of teacher candidates.
İlk ve ortaöğretimde görev alacak öğretmen adaylarının çevre eğitimi kapsamında yer alan yenilenebilir enerji konusundaki bilinç, tutum ve davranışları büyük bir öneme sahiptir. Bu bağlamda çalışmanın amacı öğretmen adaylarının yenilenebilir enerji konusundaki tutumlarının, bazı değişkenlere göre anlamlı farklılık gösterip göstermediğini araştırmaktır. Araştırma 2011-2012 öğretim yılında Kuzey Kıbrıs’ta bulunan Yakın Doğu Üniversitesindeki Okul Öncesi Öğretmenliği, Sınıf Öğretmenliği ve Coğrafya Öğretmenliği Bölümünden 87 kız, 47 erkek olmak üzere toplam 134 öğrenci üzerinden yürütülmüştür. Araştırmanın verileri Morgil ve arkadaşları tarafından 2005 yılında geliştirilen ve 5li likert tipinde 39 sorudan oluşan “Yenilenebilir Enerji Tutum Ölçeği” esas alınarak sağlanmıştır. Ölçeğin geçerlik güvenirlik çalışmaları araştırmacılar tarafından tekrar hesaplanmış, ölçek Kıbrıs Kültürüne uyarlanarak madde sayısı 33’e indirilmiştir. Veri analizinde SPSS 16 programı kullanılmıştır. Veriler aritmetik ortalama, frekans - yüzde dağılımı, t-testi ve tek yönlü varyans analizi kullanılarak analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda elde edilen bulgulara göre öğretmen adaylarının çevre tutumlarının bölüm, cinsiyet, sınıf ve üniversitede almış oldukları çevre eğitimi bazında değişkenlik gösterdiği, anne-baba eğitim durumu ve lisede almış oldukları çevre eğitimi değişkenlerinde ise anlamlı bir farklılık yaratmadığı saptanmıştır.
Helical Communication Model is a communicator model developed by Dance showing that communication is a dynamic process and developed over time between the sender and receiver, so that in each stage of the communication process the new doctrines in terms of knowledge and experience can be added to the model. In this study, it is aimed to investigate the communication level of teachers and administrators, who are working in secondary schools of TRNC that are subject to the Ministry of National Education and Culture, in terms of some personal variables. The study was conducted along with the correlational survey model, with 7 administrators and 61 teachers in schools at Güzelyurt region, Türk Maarif College and Güzelyurt Kurtuluş High School, in the 2010-2011 academic year. In the study, communication skills of administrators and teachers are determined with the use of "Helical Communication Scale" prepared by the researcher in accordance to the Dance’s Helical Communication Model. Arithmetic mean and the independent t-test were used to analyze the data. Results were interpreted according to the sub-objectives of the study, and in the conclusions section, suggestions have been made against the identified communication deficiencies.
Bu araştırmada, KKTC Milli Eğitim ve Kültür Bakanlığı’na bağlı liselerde görev yapan öğretmen ve yöneticilerin iletişim düzeyinin, kişisel değişkenler paralelinde incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Çalışma, ilişkisel tarama desenine göre yürütülmüş, Kuzey Kıbrıs’ın Güzelyurt bölgesinde bulunan Güzelyurt Türk Maarif Koleji ve Güzelyurt Kurtuluş Lisesi’nde, 2010-2011 eğitim öğretim yılında görev yapan 7 yönetici ve 61 öğretmen üzerinde gerçekleştirilmiştir. Çalışmada yönetici ve öğretmenlerin iletişim becerileri, Dance’ın Sarmal İletişim Modeli esas alınarak araştırmacı tarafından hazırlanan “Sarmal İletişim Ölçeği” ile belirlenmiştir. Verilerin analizinde aritmetik ortalama ve bağımsız t-testi kullanılmıştır. Bulgular çalışmanın alt amaçlarına göre yorumlanmış, sonuç kısmında saptanan iletişim eksikliklerine karşı önerilerde bulunulmuştur.
The Science and Technology course books which have been innovated by the commision assigned by the Ministry of National Education of TRNC have rapidly taken place in the process of educational practice. In this study, the activities in S&T course books being applied in TRNC basic educational system have been in the understanding of Multiple intelligence and related intelligence areas are determined. This is a kind of study based on descriptive analysis from qualitative research techniques. The sample of this study is constituted by the S&T course books for grades 7 and 8. According to the findings, it is seen that the activities included in verbal-linguistic area are far more (57%-7th grade; 42,1%-8th grade) than the others and musical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, naturalistic intelligence areas have few numbers. At the end of the study, for the purpose of being shared by the educationists out of TRNC, the MI activities which are easy and fun to apply and which are thought to ease the learning process are presented.

Problem Statement: Thought and behaviour patterns or habits of the people constitute the foundation of environmental problems. Assemblies, where the first step of the environmental protection awareness is taken politically, are supporting the recognition of this necessity with recently increased number of laws, and motivating individuals towards becoming eco-friendly. From this point, the problem sentence of this research was determined as "What is the level of the environmental attitudes, sensitivities and awareness among the staff and members of the TRNC Assembly?". Purpose of Study: The purpose of this study is to determine and associate the environmental attitudes, sensitivities and awareness of the staff and mem-bers of the TRNC Assembly, which is the centre where generally the laws, and specifically the environmental laws are drafted and implemented, and thus the environmental sensitivity of which is vital. Methods: The correlational survey model has been conducted in this research which is a quantitative study. The sample group is comprised of 44 persons randomly selected among 150 Republican Assembly members and staff. Data is collected by means of a questionnaire comprised of 3 sections and 72 items, which evaluates environmental awareness and environmental attitude. SPSS 16 programme is used for analysing the data. The data is analysed using arithmetic mean, frequency-percentage distribution, t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. Findings and Results: The evident obtained as result of the research suggest that the environmental attitudes / awareness of assembly members and staff is at "average frequency"; that there is a significant correlation between awareness / attitude and variables of age, education level, and the environmental education they have received in the past; and that, on the contrary, there is not significant difference in terms of the variables of gender, seniority, and membership to an environmental foundation. Conclusions and Recommendations: The general arithmetic means of answers given to Environmental Awareness Scale and Environmental Attitude Scale by staff and members of the Assembly showed a "medium frequency" level. In order to ensure and sustain environmental protection and environmental awareness, first of all education of persons should be supported. Environmental education lessons should be given to increase the low levels of environmental perception among TRNC assembly members and staff, who should be provided with certain knowledge, perception, and skills related to this issue.

In this study it is aimed to evaluate the classroom management techniques of teachers of Science and Technology subject in the Northern Cyprus according to the perceptions of students and to reveal the attitude of students towards science. The participants in this study are 589 primary education students in four different types of schools which are all located in Nicosia. The correlational survey model has been conducted in this research which is a quantitative study. The instrument consists of two sections which are the Science Attitude Scale and the Classroom Management Evaluation Scale. For the reliability and validity purposes, the data has been analyzed and the Cronbach Alpha value was found. T-Test and Mann-Whitney U-Test have been used as the statistical analysis. This study indicated that the perceptions of students towards the teachers’ behaviors in class are quite positive according to the all variables.
Bu çalışmada, Kuzey Kıbrıs’ta görev yapan Fen ve Teknoloji dersi öğretmenlerinin uyguladığı sınıf yönetimi tekniklerinin öğrencilerin algılarına göre değerlendirilmesi ve bu tekniklerin, öğrencilerin fen derslerine yönelik tutumları ile ilişkisinin ortaya çıkarılması amaçlanmıştır. Araştırmanın örneklemini Lefkoşa’da KKTC MEB Genel Ortaöğretim Dairesine bağlı dört değişik türdeki okulda eğitim gören 589 ilköğretim öğrencisi oluşturmaktadır. Nicel araştırma yöntemiyle yürütülen araştırmada ilişkisel tarama deseni kullanılmıştır. Ölçme aracı Fen Tutum Ölçeği ve Sınıf Yönetimi Değerlendirme Ölçeği olmak üzere iki bölümden oluşmuştur. Geçerlik ve güvenirlik çalışması için ölçekler analiz edilmiş ve Cronbach Alfa değerleri bulunmuştur. İstatistiksel analizlerde “t-testi” ve “Mann-Whitney U-testi” kullanılmıştır. Araştırmada elde edilen bulgular, öğrencilerin Fen ve Teknoloji derslerine karşı olumlu bir tutum sergilediklerini, öğrencilerin çalışmanın tüm değişkenlerine göre öğretmenlerinin sınıf içi davranışlarını olumlu değerlendirdiklerini göstermektedir.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between level of burnout and level of perfectionism of science teachers who work in primary and secondary education institutions in Nicosia in Northern Cyprus. APS Perfectionism Scale and Maslach Burnout Inventory were administered in the process of gathering data. Pearson correlation methods, t-test and one way anova were used in analyzing the obtained data. The results of the research revealed a statistically significant difference in positive way between the level of burnout and age and branch, between the level of perfectionism and age and the school graduated. Also there is a significant difference between subscales of perfectionism (the contradiction, high standards and regularity) and subscale of burnout (the feeling of low success), between contradiction and burnout, and between contradiction and regularity.

This study aimed to determine the environmental attitudes, behaviours and consciousness levels of inspectors and school managers working for the Ministry of Education in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Universe of this study covers the school managers of Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Professional Technical Schools in capital Lefkoşa, and the inspectors of Ministry of Education. Data was collected by questionnaire forms answered by the participants. The forms include the “Environmental Consciousness Survey List”. Data was evaluated by using SPSS. Results of this study revealed the environmental attitude, behaviour and knowledge of school managers and inspectors according to their gender, age, level of education, job and professional seniorities. Sample of study covers totally 71 school managers and inspectors of which 38% are females and 62% are males. Results showed that the environmental consciousness level of the school managers and inspectors is 74%, which could be accepted as average level. No significant differences were determined for the environmental consciousness levels of school managers and inspectors among the factors of gender, professional seniorities, membership to any environmental organization and participation to any environmental project. On the other hand, results indicated an increase in the environmental consciousness levels when the age and level of education increases. Another important result of this study is that the environmental consciousness level of inspectors is higher than the school managers. School managers and inspectors indicated that the most important environmental problem for the world and TRNC is the bad usage of natural resources. According to participants, most important factor for the prevention of environmental problems is the schools and most important subject is education.

Schiff base podands have been synthesized by reaction of triethylene glycol bis(4-aminophenyl) ether with salicylaldehyde, 5-substituted salicylaldehydes, and 2-hydroxy-1-naphthaldehyde. Manganese(II), iron(II), cobalt(II), nickel(II), and copper(II) complexes have been prepared from the salicylaldehyde-based podand via reaction with MCl2 · n H2O. The structures of the ligands and complexes have been studied by elemental analysis, FT-IR and UV-visible spectroscopy, 1H and 13C NMR, and thermogravimetric analysis. The UV-visible spectral and TG data suggest tetrahedral geometry of the metal complexes. The antimicrobial activities of the ligands and metal complexes have been evaluated as minimum inhibitory concentrations with respect to bacteria and yeast cultures. The interaction of the Schiff base podands with calf thymus DNA has been investigated by UV-visible spectroscopy, and intercalative binding to DNA has been found. The anion recognition ability of all Schiff base podands has been examined by UV-visible spectroscopy. A visually detectable color change has been observed upon addition of fluoride, cyanide, hydroxide, and acetate ions due to formation of 1 : 1 H-complexes and/or deprotonation of the receptor. No significant color change has been observed upon addition of other anions such as dihydrogen phosphate, bromide, iodide, thiocyanate, perchlorate, and hydrogen sulfate.
